In a rural setting in Ardooie, JUMA Architects designed a house that blends discreetly and unobtrusively into the landscape. The specific regulations governing the site were a key consideration in this regard. The architects opted for a single-storey, horizontally oriented house to ensure the open character of the surroundings is respected as much as possible. The project has a calm feel and demonstrates that contemporary architecture can be compelling even in a minimalist form.
The design is by JUMA Architects, a practice distinguished by a clear design language and well-considered residential projects. For this project, the architects started from the idea that architecture must have a visual impact whilst simultaneously supporting and enhancing everyday living. This resulted in a home in which the proportions, the light within the building and the use of materials are carefully coordinated and reinforce one another to create a tranquil whole. 
The architecture is characterised by powerful horizontal lines that visually elongate the house. Two striking chimneys introduce a sense of tension by rising vertically above the roof. They give the design a recognisable silhouette whilst leaving the serenity of the whole intact. Another striking feature is the use of elongated Petersen bricks, which recur both on the exterior and in the interior.

Inside, great attention has been paid to the sense of space. Although all the living areas are on the same level, varying ceiling heights add a sense of nuance. The living area feels open and airy, whilst other zones offer a greater sense of cosiness. Semi-transparent sliding panels also provide flexibility within the home. 
The interior was designed using a soft and natural colour palette that complements the architecture perfectly. Wooden accents bring warmth to the spaces and reinforce the homely character of the house. The sitting area in particular stands out for its intimate atmosphere, where high wooden walls and a fireplace combine to evoke a warm and cosy feeling. It is a place where you can unwind, with views of the surrounding landscape. This creates a peaceful living environment that enhances the sense of home.
