Hidden in a North Vancouver neighborhood, this home feels like a secret escape. Two lots were joined to create a place where indoors and outdoors flow together perfectly, drawing the eye to both the beautiful garden as to the house itself. This project encompasses a main residence, a pool house, and even a greenhouse, all stitched together with paths, terraces, and plants. The Brick House is thus a calm, yet lively retreat.
The interiors were shaped by HB Design, led by Jennifer Heffel and Shannon Bradner, a Vancouver studio known for creating homes that feel personal and warm. Their work is characterized by attention to details, materials, and natural light. Every surface and corner aligns perfectly with the family’s wishes and needs. Donohoe Living Landscapes, with Ryan Donohoe at the core, is responsible for the stunning gardens. For this project, he used layers of native and ornamental plants to create movement and texture. Meister Construction brought the whole vision to life with his builder skills, while Garret Cord Werner Architects provided the home with its significant structure and frames.
Paths of basalt and concrete lead through native grasses and Japanese maples, while metallic bronze gates and screens catch the light beautifully.
The main house embraces a modern farmhouse vibe but with a West Coast twist. Inside, the colors are soft and earthy, grounded by wood, stone, and subtle accent tones. Porcelain tiles and quartzite add texture to the rooms, while sliding doors erase the boundary between the interior and the garden. The pool house opens to a sunken lounge and pool deck, creating a perfect place to relax or hold lively gatherings. Subtle decorative lighting and layered textures enhance the interior without overpowering the natural palette. 
Outside, the garden tells its own story. Paths of basalt and concrete lead through native grasses and Japanese maples, while metallic bronze gates and screens catch the light beautifully. The greenhouses, vegetable planters, and laneway gardens remain open to neighbors, keeping the landscape alive and part of the community. Surrounded by gardens that change with the seasons, the Brick House feels alive and connected to its landscape. This retreat delicately balances serenity and privacy, while still creating a welcoming atmosphere. Each space, every material, and all of the plants have been carefully considered to create a space that frames the beauty of the natural surroundings. The Brick House feels like a true home where time stands still and where every aspect is completely at ease with its environment.
