In King's Cross, in the heart of London, old gas tanks that have been transformed into three residential buildings by two-time Stirling prize winner WilkinsonEyre. None other than fashion designer Roksanda Ilinčić was commissioned to design one of the nine penthouses. With her background in art and architecture, she gave it an artistic and unique twist.
While the Gasholders in King's Cross are rather sleek and monotonous on the outside (though a beautiful piece of architecture), they are the complete opposite on the inside. At least this is the case for one of the nine penthouses as it was designed by fashion designer Roksanda Ilinčić and was given a pastel pink colour palette. It contrasts with the grey marble counters and tabletops, the wooden and rattan chairs and the occasional yellow touches.
"An interplay of pastel pink colour palette and sculptural forms."
For the interior design Roksanda worked with established and up-coming female designers: Lina Bo Bardi and Charlotte Perriand took care of the furniture, the ceramics are by the Australian ceramist Alana Wilson and Berlin potter Christine Roland and Parisian artist Caroline Denervaud added her special textiles and murals. Roksanda’s background in art and architecture is key in the aesthetics of the design. The result is a beautiful interplay of sculptural forms, textural depths and unique colour combinations.
"Each penthouse has its own roof garden with a breathtaking view of King’s Cross."
Each of the nine penthouses in Gasholders has its own roof garden with a breathtaking view of King's Cross. For this garden, Roksanda relied on Suzanne Wallgren who created a custom-made garden design. The striking 'Pallas' table was designed by Konstantin Grcic and Gitta Gschventer designed the concrete stools that were cast from paper bag moulds. Gasholders London combines the vibrant city life with a paradise of tranquillity.
To the potential owners of this marvellous penthouse: bring a book to the private roof garden, a glass of wine and enjoy the view, the peace and life!
