In the Madrid district of Salamanca, a neighbourhood renowned for its stately architecture and refined urban life, a duplex apartment has been meticulously reimagined. Conde de Aranda is a complete renovation of an existing residence, completed in 2025, in which the location contributes to the pronounced character of the residential project. The luxurious home presents a contemporary appearance with clear classical references, with every part of the programme carefully considered and spatial quality placed at the forefront.
The project was realised in part by PR Arquitectura, which was responsible for the architectural development of the intervention. The interior design was shaped through a shared vision by Pulso Estudio and Ivette Berrondo, two studios that each brought their expertise to give the home a coherent and refined identity. This collaboration resulted in an interior in which bespoke elements, material sensibility and spatial logic are carefully aligned, without overshadowing the considered work of PR Arquitectura.
The organisation of the dwelling is central to its character. All private spaces are located on the upper floor and arranged around the building’s internal patio, ensuring calm and privacy. This allowed the lower level to be entirely dedicated to the living areas: a generous combination of lounge, dining room and kitchen. These spaces make the most of natural light entering through the façade, enhanced by timber windows and shutters. The reappraisal of the existing glass-and-steel gallery adds a layered historical element that gives the home its own signature.
A striking spatial feature is the metal staircase, specially designed and crafted for this residence.
A striking spatial feature is the metal staircase, specially designed and crafted for this residence. It forms a clear architectural statement while retaining a domestic scale. The bespoke furniture and timber joinery are likewise integral to the design and help define the rhythm of the spaces. The material palette is deliberately restrained yet rich: natural oak, stone floors and textile wall finishes create a sense of durability and tactility that runs throughout the home.
In the principal living spaces, a pared-back approach to lighting was chosen. Through decorative mouldings and integrated elements, artificial light is directed indirectly, entirely via the walls and without ceiling fixtures. This creates a soft, even lighting atmosphere that allows the materials to speak and brings a sense of calm to the spaces. Conde de Aranda thus develops its own language for contemporary living in Salamanca: discreetly luxurious, architecturally considered and with a clear focus on quality of life and detail.
