In the heart of Zimbabwe's breathtaking landscapes, where the whispers of tradition blend seamlessly with the rustling leaves, a sanctuary named "Murwi Wemujuru," or "Mount Termite" in Shona, is emerging. This project by Gemma Galeno reflects a deep connection to Zimbabwean roots, a tribute to the enchanting land that inspired its creation.
Two years ago, talented designer Gemma Galena embarked on a transformative journey, using Midjourney as a new tool in architecture, interior design and art direction. It all began with an immersive project, sparked by the designer's enchantment with Zimbabwe during a previous visit. The traditional hut architecture, inspired use of materials, distinctive shapes, lingering scents and vastness of the wilderness left an indelible mark on the creative mind. This year, the designer had the privilege of returning to Zimbabwe, a country full of beauty and boundless inspiration. This visit acted as a catalyst that rekindled the fire of creativity and gave birth to the conceptual masterpiece Murwi Wemujuru. At its core, it interweaves the ancient elements of tamped earth and reeds, closely interwoven with the organic structures of termite mounds. Against the backdrop of abundant nature, this vision takes shape as a contemporary spa-boutique hotel, deliberately secluded from the incessant hum of the internet and phones.
The project embodies the philosophy of silence and serenity
At this time of life, the resort yearns for silence, serenity and an authentic connection with nature. The design philosophy reflects the changing needs of its creator and those close to her. A serene retreat, an invitation to introspection.Unlike the norm in picturesque locations, where large windows lure the outdoors in, she deliberately opts for fewer windows. This intentional design encourages inner reflection and offers a respite from the urban cacophony. Facades strategically frame breathtaking vistas, while certain spaces have smaller or no windows, depending on their purpose. In these spaces, daylight filters gracefully through carefully placed roof openings. Going beyond bricks and mortar, this project focuses on promoting health and peace of mind. We are huge fans!
