- Interior
In creating this family home, interior designer Rebecca Leon sought the perfect symbiosis between the traditional features of architecture and the uniformity of a contemporary signature. This house, designed for a young couple reflects a totally contemporary approach. As their first home, where friends and family are regular guests, optimising the unique light and connection between inside and outside was key, culminating in the stunning sea views.
Rebecca Leon's design philosophy is reflected in the monochrome appearance, where the textures and finishes of the different materials stand out. Despite the challenge of an already approved architectural project by the city, she managed to reshape the entire design without the need for further approvals. This included different layouts, materials and resulted in a significant improvement in the final result, creating a completely new project for her clients. The colour palette is neutral, allowing it to flow naturally with the contrasting and organic elements in materials such as wood, stone and concrete. Within the living space, she wanted to create a sense of continuity without compromising functionality. By incorporating the same materials at both ends, a smooth transition between inside and outside was achieved. Wood, travertine and microcement in sand tones contribute to a monochrome readability of the space, while black matt details in the kitchen and some furniture pieces accentuate the palette. For this project, inspiration came naturally as they were able to incorporate all her favourite materials without limitations. It was a pleasure to bring the vision to life, fully respected by the client. What she wants to convey with this project is her in-depth knowledge of architecture and interior design, and her contemporary approach through which she realises unique projects. By considering a wide range of settings, elements and insights, she develops customised projects to suit the client's conditions and needs. As a designer, her love for interior design grew out of the endless possibilities of the artistic world. Inspired by her father, an architect, and mother, an interior designer, her design path began in Lisbon, Portugal. After academic years, she worked with her parents in their family business from 1997 to 2006. In 2007, she chose an independent path by founding her own studio 'Rebecca Leon * Architecture & Interior Design'. Which we are very happy about!
Creating a sense of continuity without compromising functionality
Determining the best choices for its customers starts with understanding their identity, lifestyle, needs and preferences. This preliminary analysis serves as a starting point for creativity and design. Furthermore, she enjoys working with natural materials such as wood, natural stone, organic materials such as clay, microcement and concrete, handmade tiles and bricks, linen, and natural and indirect lighting. Her designs are recognisable by the contemporary signature combined with the materials she uses. Finishes and textures with organic materials, a neutral and monochromatic palette, with wood and natural stone in contrast, reveal much of her identity. Natural light, low and intimate, is essential, as is the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Bright colours and high contrasts are not fluid in her work. Photography by João Guimarães
