- Interior
The renovation project in Loppem, led by Laura Calleeuw, demonstrates a sophisticated balance between preserving the home's authentic charm and a contemporary reinterpretation of the space. This young family with two small children received a home that exudes more openness and interaction, without losing its character. For example, the original wooden beams remained a central element, carefully combined with modern materials such as travertine and larch wood for the cupboard fronts.
When rethinking the layout of the rooms, the aim was to create a sense of connection and transparency. In this way, interesting views were made possible, allowing occupants to be in contact with different parts of the house each time. A highlight is the strategic placement of the wine cabinet and fireplace, which are located in the bend of the L-shaped rooms. These two elements not only physically connect the spaces but also the people, inviting togetherness. The wine cabinet is an aesthetic eye-catcher with a hidden cooling module, functionally designed to keep the wine at the perfect temperature. This creates the opportunity, especially on a cold winter evening, to relax with a glass of wine by the fireplace.
Natural materials were chosen for the window decoration, including woven wood at the tall windows, creating a warm and serene atmosphere. The interior design is entirely geared towards calm and serenity, with loose furniture in natural and earthy tones. This keeps things minimalist while allowing for personal touches. The use of a seamless, matt greige cast floor gives a calm, soft feel to the home, and the wooden beams on the ceiling enhance the natural character of the rooms. The choice of materials was deliberate, with an eye for detail and the interplay of lines and textures. For example, the grain of the wood and the seams of the screed are thoughtfully positioned, contributing to the harmony and balance of the home.

In this project, Laura Calleeuw creates an atmosphere she describes as ‘cozycation’ - a concept in which the peace and serenity of a holiday destination, such as in Casa Cook or OKU Hotels, is translated into a home environment. The feeling of coming home is thus a central theme, with the experience and feeling of the occupants always in the foreground. Based on her passion for interior architecture, Laura always departs from an architectural interplay of lines. This interplay of lines creates the necessary proportions, perspectives and interrelationships between the spaces, with the interior always reinforcing the exterior. Once this architectural basis has been established, Laura gives free rein to her creativity to personalise the design, keeping in mind the unique balance between aesthetics, functionality and personality. This project exudes simplicity, luxury and serenity, despite the complex considerations that preceded it.
