Appearence House in Barcelona is a bathroom project from 2025 that focuses on the interplay between natural materials and a forward-thinking design language. Within an area of 440 square metres, the space is conceived as a carefully constructed environment in which daily routines take on an almost architectural significance. The design emphasises clarity, tranquillity and the experience of the material, without losing sight of functionality.
The designer, Mariana Basarab, is based in Spain and has over eight years’ experience in interior architecture. Her work is strongly influenced by Barcelona, a city where historical layers and contemporary architecture constantly coexist. In Appearence House, she translates this context into a bathroom concept in which materiality and spatial experience play a central role, with attention to detail and proportion in every choice. 
At the heart of the design is a freestanding marble bath that visually anchors the space and immediately draws the eye. Microcement has been used on the floors and walls, creating a smooth and tranquil backdrop that further accentuates the sculptural effect of the marble. The materials from the Porcelanosa Group fulfil a subtle supporting role within the overall scheme, reinforcing the understated atmosphere whilst bringing a refined cohesion to the space. This creates a sober and layered aesthetic, in which the focus shifts to tactility rather than decorative elements.

A striking contrast is created by the wall clad in Gravity Aluminium Wave Metal, whose undulating texture adds a more industrial energy. This dynamic element breaks through the softness of the natural materials and lends the space extra depth. Elements by Antonio Lupi, including the washbasin and bath unit, are subtly integrated and bring a functional elegance that complements the understated luxury of the project as a whole. 
The lighting, designed by Vibia, is carefully tailored to the textures and volumes within the space. The soft light emphasises the nuances in the marble and microcement, creating a serene atmosphere without being overpowering. Appearence House demonstrates how a bathroom can evolve into an architectural experience in which the balance between natural materials and futuristic accents is clearly expressed.
