To mark the centenary of the prestigious Maison d'Art Lesage, talented interior designers Marc-Antoine Biehler and Amaury Graveleine have created a unique and enchanting exhibition, "La Chambre 100". The result of the collaboration between Biehler-Graveleine and the 19M, this celebration of craft and design offers an immersive experience that highlights the rich history and expertise of the Maison Lesage.
Biehler-Graveleine, an independent interior architecture and design studio, gained notoriety thanks to their impressive participation in the "Design Parade Toulon #5", organised by the Villa Noailles and judged by a jury chaired by Studio KO. Their project, "La Chambre 100", is a wonderful celebration of Lesage's craftsmanship, creatively linking fashion embroidery with furniture design and weaving, especially tweed. "La Chambre 100" is inspired by the codes of a luxury hotel suite, inviting visitors into a carefully embroidered space reminiscent of Indian guesthouses. The exhibition highlights Maison Lesage's deep roots in southern India, drawing a clever parallel with the iconic style of southern France and the Villa Noailles. The Biehler-Graveleine duo have created an intimate architectural ensemble in which every corner is an ode to meticulous craftsmanship.
The exhibition invites visitors to take a journey through the world of embroidery and interior design
The layout of "La Chambre 100" is designed so that visitors can take their time to discover the delicate embroidered details. The room includes carefully selected furniture, such as a tweed sofa that revives the codes of the traditional charpoy, ceiling fans decorated with pearls, and a majestic headboard that combines metal and embroidery. These elements weave a subtle story between contemporary and antique pieces, inviting a fresh look at embroidery and interior design. The exhibition combines various materials in surprising ways: reflective metal meets delicate textiles, ceramics and coloured resin, as well as unusual textures such as straw and wooden beads. These contrasts enhance the dreamlike atmosphere of the space and highlight Biehler-Graveleine's innovative approach.
Marc-Antoine Biehler, a graduate of the Ecole Camondo, and Amaury Graveleine, with degrees from the Ecole Boulle and the Ecole Paris-Malaquais, have an impressive track record. They won the Audience Award for their project "Mirage" and the CHANEL Visual Merchandising Prize for their window display "Naissance" in 2021. This year, in 2024, Jean-François Lesage welcomes the duo to the Lesage Intérieurs creative team, where they continue to innovate and push the boundaries of embroidery. "La Chambre 100" is a Biehler-Graveleine masterpiece that pays tribute to the rich history and craftsmanship of Maison d'Art Lesage. The exhibition invites visitors to take a journey through the world of embroidery and interior design, offering a fresh perspective on the applications of this time-honoured craft. On view until 30 October 2024 at the Évêché de Toulon, "La Chambre 100" is a must-see for lovers of design and craftsmanship. For more information, visit Biehler-Graveleine's website.
