In the heart of Raipur, a city once known for its steel and coal industries, a remarkable residential oasis is emerging, one that honours the past while looking ahead. The Three Stooges project, designed by Indian design studio MuseLAB under the direction of Jasem Pirani and Huzefa Rangwala, demonstrates how architecture and nature can merge in perfect harmony.
Raipur is currently undergoing a transition: from an industrial centre to a greener, more liveable city. The rise of environmentally conscious residential developments plays a central role in this evolution. Three Stooges fits seamlessly into this shift. Situated on an expansive two-acre plot along the edge of a lake, the home is a striking example of how contemporary living spaces can be thoughtfully and sustainably integrated into their natural setting. Rather than treating the landscape as a backdrop, it becomes the starting point. The existing mango orchard, gently rolling lawns, and serene lake views form the foundation of the design.
The home comprises three distinct “volumes”,a nod to its name, that together create a dynamic composition. The signature vaulted roofs give the building a sculptural presence. Inside, exposed brickwork, used both on the exterior and interior, adds a warm, tactile atmosphere. Sunlight is subtly reflected by the ivory-toned walls, while carefully positioned windows frame the surrounding greenery like living paintings.
The mangoes were already there, we just built a home between them
The design challenge lay in creating a home that feels both rural and urban. The clients envisioned a modern house with a rustic soul, a place that is both refined and comfortably lived-in. MuseLAB rose to the occasion by crafting a design that embraces imperfections and allows the materials to tell their own story. The home includes three bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining area, lounge, home cinema, and a guest suite. These spaces are linked by a swimming pool that flows like a spine through the plot, culminating in a pavilion where outdoor living takes centre stage. Three Stooges is more than just a house; it is a tribute to the landscape, a subtle dance between form and function, between human presence and the natural world. The project shows that architecture can do more than shape physical space, it can infuse a place with meaning. This is a philosophy that MuseLAB brings to life with poetic clarity in the ever-greener city of Raipur. We eagerly anticipate future projects from this exceptional Indian studio.
