Casa Aguilar is more than a home; it is a serene oasis designed for introspection and contemplation, a place where life inside the house subtly intertwines with nature outside. The home's design stemmed from the desire to create a safe, secluded environment in the middle of a densely built-up area, without the family feeling cut off from the natural world.
We would like to take you inside a project by design firm Taller Segovia Molina. Casa Aguilar's thick walls act as a second skin, a protective shell that envelops its occupants while inviting them to rest and reflect. Within the house's solid structure, however, life flows light and airy. The light pouring in through patios on all three levels creates a serene and intimate atmosphere, where each space has its own character. On the ground floor, the open floor plan leads you from the main entrance through several social spaces, each connected to a succession of wild gardens. These gardens are not simply decorative; they are designed to attract pollinating insects and native birds, enhancing the sense of harmony with nature.
The contrast between the house's closed façade and the open, bright interior spaces emphasises the duality felt throughout the design. The transition from dark, enclosed spaces to open, light areas invites occupants to consciously experience sensory changes. This spatial succession creates a dynamic in which light, shadow, vegetation, wind and rain play an active role in daily life.
The house offers a monumental spaciousness while maintaining a human scale
Another striking aspect of Casa Aguilar is the way the house opens up to its own internal landscapes. The private spaces, such as the ceramics studio and the home office, overlook terraces and gardens. These spaces are not only functional, but also invite creativity and contemplation. The ceramics studio in particular, which transitions via a terrace into a double-height space, emphasises the pursuit of openness and connection with the surroundings. The culmination of this pursuit of peace and connection is found on the roof, where the final garden is located. This place is designed for meditation, surrounded by lush vegetation that provides a sense of shelter and security. Here, surrounded by plants and the sounds of insects, residents can fully indulge in contemplation and the beauty of nature.
Casa Aguilar is a haven that uniquely merges with the natural world, without compromising on privacy and comfort. The house offers a monumental spaciousness, while still maintaining a human scale, constantly connecting its residents to the changing elements of nature. Firm: Taller Segovia Molina
