SALA2 Arquitetura realised an understated yet layered 220m² flat in the heart of São Paulo. Designed for a family of four with two teenage children, this project revolves around encounter, warmth and a deep connection with natural materials. The renovation transformed a floor plan of a new-build flat into a living space where the Brazilian soul is distinctively expressed, without falling into nostalgia or folklore.
SALA2 has been developing interior and architectural projects for both residential and commercial purposes since 2014. The studio is known for its clear design language and functional approach, the result of technical research and the pursuit of architecture that reflects the client's identity. Brazilian design is a common thread throughout the work. Thus, it relies on local creativity, young talent and sustainable innovation, always with an eye for timelessness. Each project is led by a dedicated coordinator, supported by a team of carefully chosen professionals, with whom the creative process unfolds step by step.
This project was created using the same distinctive method. The central intervention? Bringing the kitchen, dining room and living room together into one open unit. Balconies on both the private and social sides were subtly integrated, adding breath to the living space. A sculptural bench by Hugo França, carved from solid wood, forms an anchor point in the living space. Its flowing lines contrast gently with the ceramic floor - a deliberate reference to traditional brick.
In the private spaces - including a 16 m² master suite with adjoining dressing room - tranquillity and rhythm prevail. Each of the three bedrooms features spacious built-in wardrobes, without compromising the sense of space. The astute finishes in the bathroom show the same attention to detail as the rest of the flat: subdued tones, sophisticated textures and ease of use go hand in hand here. Throughout the house, the electrical network was adapted to contemporary needs without disturbing the visual whole.
Balkons aan zowel de privé- als sociale zijde werden subtiel geïntegreerd, waardoor de woonruimte aan adem wint
What further distinguishes this project is the attention paid to Brazilian designers. Furniture by local designers, with attention to craftsmanship and a spirit of innovation, contributes to an interior with cultural depth. The handmade Oratório Bar, SALA2's own design, is a powerful symbol in this. Not as a statement piece, but as a silent witness to a design vision that reads tradition as raw material for something new. Just like the house itself: open, honest, and rooted in the place where it stands.
