Auñón Cabrera Studio and Pasqual Giner Arquitectura have long been synonymous with the best of Mediterranean design. The visionary behind the former, María José Auñón Cabrera, leverages her extensive expertise to create bespoke and unique spaces. Her work reflects the slow living ethos that is so characteristic of the Mediterranean coast while also incorporating the personal touches of her clients into her interiors.
Pasqual Giner Arquitectura, a family-run business, draws inspiration from the rich heritage of the Mediterranean to deliver minimalist designs that seamlessly unite natural materials with their surroundings. Their projects unfold environments where interiors flow effortlessly into the landscape while – like Cabrera – paying close attention to the unique features of each site and the needs of their clients. In collaboration with Auñón Cabrera Studio, they have realized a project that embodies their shared vision of timeless elegance, functionality and individuality.
This unique project is a testament to the power of thoughtful design, balancing Mediterranean heritage with refined modern principles
Set against the serene backdrop of Calpe, a picturesque town on Spain's Costa Blanca, this refuge exemplifies harmony between architecture and its surroundings. The architects have masterfully combined Mediterranean tranquillity with contemporary design. In doing so, this serene retreat transcends architectural conventions, resulting in a sublime interplay of organic forms and noble materials, accompanied by an extraordinary interaction of light and space. The villa’s architecture further redefines the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. Large windows offer the impression of gazing at a moving painting as they frame stunning sea views while generously inviting natural light to flood the interiors. A continuous polished cement floor seamlessly connects the indoor areas with the veranda, fostering a sense of spatial continuity. Walnut accents in cabinetry, kitchen details, and window frames add warmth, perfectly balancing the minimalist aesthetic. Even the villa’s contours seem to echo the rugged landscape: curved lines dominate the design, from the arches on the veranda to bespoke built-in elements such as niches and a concrete bench. These features not only pay homage to nature but also give the villa a welcoming feel, emphasizing visual comfort. Curved recesses house indirect lighting and curtain systems, creating a streamlined, functional ambiance that highlights the purity of the design. The collaboration between Auñón Cabrera Studio and Pasqual Giner Arquitectura delivers more than a home; it offers a lifestyle. This unique project is a testament to the power of thoughtful design, balancing Mediterranean heritage with refined modern principles. It is a sanctuary that connects landscape, light, and human experience, serving as both an architectural statement and a safe haven. Photography by Pablo Caulin
